| Courtesy of Boston Common | | Benjamin Bainbridge Tregoe III proposed to Elisabeth Bulkley Shepard in the exact spot where they met-the threshold of his Beacon Hill apartment. Elisabeth, known as EC, describes the scene, “It was early one Saturday morning last June. We were getting ready to go to the Cape. Ben stopped packing and started talking about how much our relationship meant to him. He started sweating, I thought he was sick. Then he slowly lowered to one knee, and I knew.” Ben pulled from his pocket a 1.5-carat, princess cut diamond ring set in platinum with cushion cut sapphires on each side designed by Gary Artinian of Lexington. |
The couple wed on March 18 in Aspen, Colorado, where the bride's family has a home. The rehearsal dinner took place at the Hotel Jerome, a historic landmark-complete with antler chandeliers-that dates back to the days when Aspen was more about mining than marriage. Local musician Nick Sheridan played acoustic guitar. Dinner was a buffet of barbeque ribs and chicken finished with apple crisp. For the wedding and reception, which were held at Elk Mountain Lodge in Castle Creek Valley, the bride wore a Vera Wang ivory silk mermaid-cut dress with a puddle train and bustier-style top. She tucked a cherry blossom in her hair at the last minute-her “something borrowed,” plucked from an arrangement downstairs-and completed the look with a white mink wrap; also by Vera Wang. Benjamin and EC were married outdoors, on the deck of the lodge overlooking snowy Cathedral Peak . They gave guests fleece blankets embroidered with an Aspen leaf and their wedding date, which most used for warmth. Six bridesmaids, in cream-colored cashmere sweaters and satin-wrap-skirts in eggplant, carried bright tulips and peonies. EC carried calla lilies and the men wore pussy willows with a cherry blossom pinned to the lapels of their navy suits. Everyone moved indoors for the reception, where they danced to disco played by Denver-based band Boogielicious . Guest joined in singing and dancing onstage, feasted on Colorado lamb and trout, and toasted the couple over Champagne and a four-tier lemon-butter and chocolate-mousse cake. Following a blissful week in Aspen , the couple returned to Boston to resume their lives-EC as assistant director of admissions and financial aide at the Rivers School in Weston, and Benjamin as the CEO of Get Sugar, a website devoted to the Boston shopping scene. The couple will travel to Basque Country in June for a honeymoon. |
